Peter Skeris brings thirty years of firsthand observation to the study of urban development in Mississauga, Canada. His academic foundation is in social sciences: he taught and published in theoretical sociology at the University of Lublin (KUL) in Poland while simultaneously conducting urban research. His doctoral dissertation on reference groups is held in the Robarts Library at the University of Toronto.

In Canada, he has contributed to research projects led by David Hulchanski of the University of Toronto's Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, and conducted research for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

His broader civic engagement has included addressing immigration matters in a federal constituency office and serving as president of Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services (PICS), an organization with several branches across the Greater Toronto Area. He has trained Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) teachers in innovative online pedagogical methods through the federally sponsored LearnIT2Teach program, and has presented on management topics at International Society of Automation (ISA TECH) conferences in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

His current writing and research focus on the challenges facing large Canadian and North American cities in the post-COVID era — with particular attention to energy security and environmental sustainability.
